Kangana Ranaut has been battling a legal case against CBFC for not issuing her certificate for Emergency. The movie was supposed to release earlier in September but owing to backlash from the Sikh community, CBFC delayed the U/A certification. Now, it seems the movie will be out in the theatres soon as the actress, who is also a director and producer of the upcoming political drama, has agreed to the cuts and changes suggested by the board.
Kangana Ranaut agrees with 13 cuts in Emergency?
According to Live Law, the lawyer representing Zee Studios, on Monday, informed the Bombay High Court that Kangana Ranaut had an interaction with CBFC and agreed with the cuts and changes as suggested by the Censor Board’s Revising Committee. The report further stated the producers had submitted a format outlining the implementation of changes. Thus, the matter has been adjourned. The next hearing on this matter is on October 3, Thursday.
Earlier, Kangana had called CBFC’s suggestions “unreasonable” and her strategy was ready to stand its ground. In a statement following reports in a section of the media that the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) has asked for 13 cuts in the film, Ranaut said the team is “resolute in maintaining the film’s authenticity”.
What is the controversy surrounding Emergency?
Kangana Ranaut , who has directed and co-produced the film besides playing the lead role of former prime minister late Indira Gandhi, had accused the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) of stalling certification to delay the release. The biographical drama is caught up in controversy after some Sikh organisations including the Shiromani Akali Dal objected, accusing it of misrepresenting the community and getting historical facts wrong.
