New Delhi, April 25, 2025 – The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) elections began on Friday, with voting taking place in two sessions: 9 am to 1 pm and 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm. The vote counting will start later tonight, with results expected by April 28. A total of 7,906 eligible students, with 57% male and 43% female, are participating in the highly contested elections, marked by shifting alliances.
This year, the United Left faction has splintered, leading to new political alignments. The All India Students Association (AISA) has joined forces with the Democratic Students’ Federation (DSF), while the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has formed a separate bloc with BAPSA, AISF, and PSA. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has also fielded a full panel of candidates, while the AISA-DSF and SFI-BAPSA-AISF-PSA alliances have nominated their candidates for key positions.
