    Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s Statue Defaced in Canada by Palestinian Supporters | VIDEO

    New Delhi: Supporters of Palestine, while protesting in Canada’s Brampton, attacked and defaced statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh at a Square in the city, generating outrage and anger among people. 

    The video of the act surfaced on social media and went viral.

    Who is Maharaja Ranjit Singh

    Maharaja Ranjit Singh who was an exemplary and strong Sikh ruler, successfully repelled many Afghan attacks in Punjab and protected the country from invasion.  

    Maharaja Ranjit Singh, often referred to as the ‘Lion of Punjab ,’ was the founder and first ruler of the Sikh Empire, which he established in the early 19th century.  Despite losing sight in one eye due to smallpox in his childhood, Ranjit Singh had formidable leader and military strategist, and consolidated a large Sikh empire and challenged the much stronger Afghans and fought British expansion. His administration included people from various religious backgrounds, including Sikhs, Hindus, Muslims, and Europeans. 

    Ranjit Singh is widely respected and loved in the country.
