New Delhi, April 22, 2025 — Instagram is using AI to detect and restrict accounts where users may be misrepresenting their age, particularly targeting teens posing as adults. The platform analyzes account activity to identify potential false age entries and converts such accounts into “Teen Accounts” with stricter privacy settings, including private accounts and content limitations.
Additionally, Instagram has introduced features like usage notifications for users exceeding 60 minutes and a “sleep mode” that disables notifications overnight. Meta, Instagram’s parent company, is also collaborating with parents to review and verify teen users’ ages, addressing concerns about social media’s impact on mental health and age verification standards.
