Palo Alto, April 18, 2025 – xAI has launched a beta memory feature for its Grok chatbot on Grok.com and mobile apps (excluding EU/UK), allowing the AI to recall past conversation details—like user preferences or earlier requests—to offer more tailored replies. This brings Grok closer in capability to other advanced chatbots such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.
The memory system is entirely optional and controlled by users through a “Personalize with Memories” toggle in the Data Controls. A Private Chat mode prevents selected sessions from being saved, while a new sidebar icon lets users inspect and delete specific memories. xAI plans to extend these user‑controlled memory tools to Grok’s X integration soon.
