Washington, D.C., April 17, 2025 – The Trump administration has accused China of evading U.S. tariffs by rerouting goods through countries like Vietnam. Trade advisor Peter Navarro labeled Vietnam as a “colony of communist China,” prompting Hanoi to pledge action against such transshipment practices. These accusations come amid ongoing efforts to curb what Washington sees as unfair trade tactics by Beijing.
In retaliation, the U.S. has imposed additional tariffs on Chinese imports, some reaching up to 245%. China responded by increasing tariffs on American goods and filing a complaint with the World Trade Organization. With both sides demanding the other initiate trade talks, the dispute has deepened, further straining U.S.-China trade relations.
