
Kuala Lumpur, April 17, 2025 – During President Xi Jinping’s state visit, China and Malaysia signed over 30 cooperation deals covering areas like digital economy, AI, infrastructure, and agriculture. The two sides also agreed to enhance the “Two Countries, Twin Parks” initiative and began talks on a potential China-ASEAN free trade agreement aimed at reducing tariffs and boosting regional trade.
In a joint statement, both countries called for peace in the South China Sea and urged progress on a code of conduct with ASEAN. They criticized unilateral trade restrictions and highlighted the importance of global cooperation through institutions like the UN and WTO. The visit marks China’s effort to deepen ties in Southeast Asia amid rising tensions with the U.S.
