Andhra Pradesh Government Issues Ordinance on SC Classification Following Governor’s Approval

Amaravati, April 17, 2025 – The Andhra Pradesh government has issued an ordinance on Scheduled Caste (SC) classification following Governor Justice Abdul Nazeer’s approval. The ordinance, formalized by the Law Department, had earlier received clearance from the state cabinet. It aims to streamline SC categorization and address long-standing concerns within various sub-castes.

The move is based on a detailed report by a one-member commission led by Rajeev Ranjan Mishra. The commission recommended treating the state as a single unit for SC classification using 2011 Census data, with a shift to district-level classification planned after the 2026 Census. Additionally, the cabinet resolved to include the Budagajangalu and another community in the SC list, marking a significant step toward inclusive social justice.
