Vijayawada, April 17, 2025 – 16th Finance Commission Chairman Arvind Panagariya stated that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu presented detailed plans for Andhra Pradesh’s economic development and Amaravati’s growth. The Chief Minister showcased the state’s progress through a photo exhibition and sought the Commission’s support to rebuild the state, aiming to achieve the “Swarna Andhra” vision by 2047.
Panagariya praised Chandrababu’s leadership and recalled their work together at NITI Aayog. He noted that the Finance Commission is not bound by Central Terms of Reference and confirmed that special status is no longer in effect. He added that Andhra Pradesh and Assam are seeking additional support based on population. The Commission, after its meetings in Vijayawada, proceeded to Tirupati for further discussions.
