Murshidabad, April 15, 2025: Violence erupted in Murshidabad following protests against the newly introduced Waqf Act 2025. What started as peaceful demonstrations over concerns about the Act’s impact on community rights soon turned into clashes, resulting in damaged property, injuries, and panic among residents.
In response, authorities imposed Section 144 and deployed additional security forces to restore calm. Political leaders have called for either amendments or restraint, while daily life in affected areas remains disrupted with schools closed and markets shut.
