Moscow, April 12, 2025 – U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Saint Petersburg to advance ceasefire talks for the ongoing Ukraine conflict. The discussions, which lasted over four hours, were deemed “productive” by Russian officials. The focus was on various aspects of the Ukrainian settlement, with the U.S. pushing for a resolution that could pave the way for lasting peace.
Despite Ukraine’s approval of a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire, Russia has set conditions, including Ukraine’s non-NATO membership and territorial concessions, making progress more difficult. President Donald Trump has voiced his frustration with the slow pace of negotiations, urging Russia to accelerate peace talks.
