Indian Medical Device Industry Faces US Tariff Hurdle, Calls for Policy Action

New Delhi, April 3, 2025 – The Association of Indian Medical Device Industry (AiMeD) has expressed concern over the U.S. imposing a 26% tariff on Indian medical device exports, which could challenge sector growth. Rajiv Nath, AiMeD’s Forum Coordinator, noted that India remains a key supplier of affordable medical devices to the U.S., despite a trade imbalance favoring American imports.

Beyond tariffs, Nath highlighted that stringent regulations and high FDA approval costs pose major hurdles for Indian manufacturers. He emphasized the need to explore new opportunities as the U.S. seeks to diversify its supply chains, stressing that bilateral cooperation could help overcome these barriers and boost market access.
