New Delhi, April 3, 2025 – The Lok Sabha passed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, after a 13-hour debate, introducing reforms to enhance transparency in waqf property management. Key changes include adding non-Muslim members to waqf boards and increasing government oversight to prevent corruption and unfair land claims.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla hailed the bill as a step toward social justice, emphasizing that it would bring greater accountability. The bill now moves to the Rajya Sabha for further deliberation before becoming law.
