NASA to Launch Three Rockets to Study Auroral Substorms in Alaska

Washington, March 29: NASA will launch three sounding rockets from Alaska’s Poker Flat Research Range to study auroral substorms, which impact Earth’s upper atmosphere and disrupt satellite communications. These substorms, triggered by magnetospheric disturbances, cause sudden bursts of auroral activity.

The rockets will carry instruments to measure electric and magnetic fields, plasma waves, and particle interactions. Researchers aim to improve space weather forecasts and understand geomagnetic storms’ effects on technology and communication systems.
