Hangzhou, March 24, 2025 – Ant Group, backed by Jack Ma, has developed a method to train AI models using Chinese-made semiconductors, potentially reducing training costs by 20%. The company leveraged chips from Alibaba Group and Huawei Technologies, using the Mixture of Experts (MoE) machine learning approach to achieve results comparable to Nvidia’s H800 chips.
Ant Group, while still using Nvidia chips, is actively exploring alternatives from AMD and Chinese manufacturers to enhance AI self-reliance. Some of its AI models have even outperformed those of Meta Platforms Inc., marking a significant leap in China’s AI capabilities amid global semiconductor supply challenges.
