Ottawa, March 21, 2025 – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that U.S. President Donald Trump will eventually seek trade talks as the ongoing trade war harms American interests. He emphasized that Canada is open to discussions but will insist on respect for its sovereignty, asserting that U.S. trade actions ultimately hurt its own economy.
In response to U.S. tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, Carney met with provincial leaders to discuss economic strategies. Plans include creating a national trade and energy corridor, potentially building an oil pipeline from Alberta to Eastern Canada, removing interprovincial trade barriers, and providing relief to industries affected by the dispute.
