    Guwahati, February 26, 2025—Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, unveiled a Rs 4,800 crore plan to enhance Assam’s Inland Waterways at the Advantage Assam 2.0 event. This initiative focuses on improving river transport infrastructure by developing new terminals, dredging projects, and expanding existing waterways to boost cargo and passenger movement.

    The plan aims to position Assam as a significant player in India’s inland water transport sector, promoting economic growth, job creation, tourism, and overall regional development. Sonowal emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing connectivity in the North Eastern states by leveraging their natural resources.
