Washington, February 24, 2025: Dr. Mamtimin Ala, President of the East Turkistan Government in Exile (ETGE), strongly criticized Columbia University Professor Dr. Jeffrey Sachs for his remarks portraying China as “not an enemy.” Dr. Ala accused Sachs of ignoring China’s authoritarian policies, suppression of free speech, and human rights violations, particularly against Uyghurs in Xinjiang.
He also condemned China’s aggressive foreign policies, including military threats and economic tactics like the Belt and Road Initiative, which he claimed create debt dependencies. Dr. Ala challenged the narrative that China’s actions do not constitute hostility, questioning how such issues could be overlooked in favor of economic praise.
