Beijing, February 20, 2025 – China has opposed Vietnam’s recent construction activities in the disputed Spratly Islands, calling them a violation of its sovereignty. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin stated that such actions escalate tensions in the South China Sea and reaffirmed China’s claim over the islands.
Vietnam defends its activities as legitimate and in accordance with international law. The Spratly Islands remain a major point of contention, involving multiple claimants like the Philippines and Malaysia. China has urged Vietnam to cease its actions and resolve disputes through diplomatic dialogue.
