Reliance to Build 10 GWh ACC Battery Facility in India, Boosting EV Sector Growth

New Delhi, February 18, 2025: The Ministry of Heavy Industries has signed an agreement with Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) to set up a 10 GWh Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) battery manufacturing facility under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. This move is aimed at enhancing India’s manufacturing capabilities in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, in line with the government’s goal to boost domestic production of ACCs.

The PLI scheme, approved in May 2021, carries a budget of ₹18,100 crore and is designed to achieve a manufacturing capacity of 50 GWh of ACCs. Reliance’s selection for this 10 GWh capacity marks a significant step toward self-reliance in the EV battery industry, with expectations of contributing significantly to India’s transition to sustainable transportation and energy storage solutions.
