San Francisco, February 17, 2025 — OpenAI’s board has unanimously rejected Elon Musk’s unsolicited $97.4 billion offer to acquire the company. The board emphasized that OpenAI is not for sale and remains committed to its mission of ensuring artificial general intelligence (AGI) benefits all of humanity.
Musk, a co-founder of OpenAI, has previously expressed concerns over the company’s transition to a for-profit model and its strategic direction. Despite his efforts to reassert influence, including proposing significantly lower offers compared to the company’s valuation, OpenAI remains focused on securing capital to advance its AI models.
