Moscow: Russian forces have begun storming Vuhledar, an eastern Ukrainian bastion that has defied Russian attacks since the start of the 2022 conflict.
Vuhledar is a significant mining hub, particularly for coal. Controlling it would grant Russia access to valuable resources and potentially disrupt Ukraine’s energy supply.
“Russian units have entered Vuhledar – the storm of the town has begun,” said Yuri Podolyaka, a Ukrainian-born, pro-Russian military blogger. Multiple pro-Russian war bloggers confirmed the attack.

Its location near the Donetsk region, a key area of conflict, makes it a strategic point for Russian forces to advance further into eastern Ukraine.
If Russian forces can capture Vuhledar, it could represent a significant breakthrough in their campaign to control the Donetsk region.
The ongoing fighting in Vuhledar poses a significant threat to civilians trapped in the town.
According to Russian official media, the hilltop town in the Donetsk region, which some have dubbed a fortress due to its long-standing resistance to Russian attacks, has been caught in a pincer movement by Russian forces, with clashes taking place to the east of the town.
