J&K Assembly Elections: BJP Workers Allege Pre-Poll Violence by National Conference in Nowshera

Jammu: As Jammu and Kashmir prepares for the second phase of assembly polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) on Tuesday raised serious allegations against the National Conference (NC) regarding pre-poll violence in the Nowshera constituency. BJP workers in J&K party President Ravinder Raina’s constituency alleged that they were assaulted by NC workers.

Family members of the injured BJP workers have claimed that there is an attempt to pressure them into voting in favor of the NC. Meanwhile, the BJP has also alleged that NC workers have set up checkpoints, or “nakas,” in the area, which they say intimidates voters and creates an atmosphere of fear.

The Nowshera constituency is set to go to the polls tomorrow, September 25, as part of the second phase of the elections. This phase will determine the political fate of 239 candidates, including former Chief Minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah.

Tight security arrangements have been established for the elections in the Mendhar sub-division of the Poonch district, which is considered a border area. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), along with Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security forces, have been deployed to ensure a peaceful voting process.
