New Delhi, February 6, 2025 – The government has closed 12 fake universities since 2014, with 21 such institutions listed by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Minister of State for Education, Dr. Sukanta Mazumdar, stated that state governments are responsible for taking legal action and closing these fraudulent universities.
In addition, FIRs have been filed against several self-styled institutions, and warning notices have been issued to those offering fake degrees. The UGC has made the list of fake universities public on its website and social media, urging states to report any unlisted institutions.
