Chandigarh, February 6, 2025: The families of 104 illegal immigrants from Punjab, recently deported from the US, are now facing crippling debts after borrowing large sums and mortgaging properties to send their relatives abroad. Many of the immigrants were sent through illegal “donkey routes” by unscrupulous travel agents, leaving their families devastated by the financial ruin as the deportees return to India.
With the US intensifying its crackdown on illegal immigration, the families are now seeking government assistance to repay loans or provide employment to their deported relatives. Some are asking the Punjab government for financial aid or jobs for their sons, highlighting the tragic consequences of seeking a better life through fraudulent immigration practices.
