New Delhi, January 30, 2025: NASA announced that it is working closely with SpaceX to safely bring back Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams and astronaut Butch Wilmore, who have been stranded on the International Space Station (ISS) for 238 days. This update comes after SpaceX founder Elon Musk revealed that US President Donald Trump had personally asked him to facilitate the astronauts’ return as soon as possible. Musk expressed his concerns, calling it “terrible” that Williams and Wilmore had been left “stranded” for such an extended period.
NASA stated that both agencies are working expeditiously to return the astronauts safely and are preparing for the launch of Crew-10 to ensure a handover between expeditions. However, the space agency has yet to confirm the exact date of their return. Musk further mentioned that NASA had involved SpaceX months ago as part of the Crew-9 mission to bring back the astronauts.
