A.B. Venkateswar Rao’s Suspension Period Regularized, Salary and Allowances to Be Paid

Amaravati, January 28, 2025: The Andhra Pradesh government has regularized the suspension period of retired IPS officer A.B. Venkateswar Rao, covering two phases: from February 2, 2020, to February 7, 2022, and from June 28, 2022, to May 30, 2024. Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand issued the orders to consider these periods as duty. The government also dropped the charges against him, citing insufficient evidence.

Venkateswar Rao, who retired on May 31, 2024, had legally challenged his suspension. The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) lifted the suspension on May 8, 2024, and ordered his immediate posting. However, he was forced to retire the same day. The government has now instructed that his salary and allowances for the suspension period be paid as if he had been on duty.
