Mumbai, January 27, 2025: JSW Group, led by billionaire Sajjan Jindal, is entering the non-ferrous metals sector with a ₹2,600 crore ($301 million) investment. The group has secured a 20-year mining development and operation (MDO) contract for two copper mines in Jharkhand, expected to produce 3 million tonnes of copper ore annually, with partial operations beginning in the latter half of FY 2027.
This move aims to boost domestic copper production and reduce India’s reliance on imports. It aligns with JSW Group’s broader expansion strategy, which includes a $35 billion investment in electric vehicles, batteries, steel, and green energy in Maharashtra.
