Amaravati, January 25, 2025: Etikoppaka toys, a symbol of Andhra Pradesh’s rich tradition, will be featured at the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi. Made from Ankudu wood and natural dyes, these handmade toys have a 400-year legacy. Crafted in Etikoppaka village, Anakapalli district, they are known for their child-friendly designs and have gained international recognition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised them for their safety and artistic value in his Mann Ki Baat address.
Despite their global acclaim, artisans face challenges like restrictions on Ankudu wood collection and seek subsidies for raw materials. These toys, from traditional dolls to artistic figurines, provide the villagers with an economic lifeline and showcase their exceptional craftsmanship. As Andhra Pradesh proudly presents them at the Republic Day parade, attention is drawn to both their artistry and the struggles of the Etikoppaka artisans.
