Prakasam, January 24, 2025: The Andhra Pradesh government is focused on establishing five new airports in the state, with one planned for Prakasam district. The government is actively working with officials and elected representatives to move this proposal forward, which has been in discussion for several years. The plan is to build a domestic terminal suitable for smaller aircraft. Although the proposal has been around for nearly two decades, the current coalition government is taking steps to make it a reality.
The airport will be located near Ongole, the district center, in areas such as Koppolu, Alluru, and Aluru. Local representatives and revenue officials are currently assessing the land for suitability. The proposed site will undergo a technical evaluation before a final decision is made. Ongole’s proximity to the Ramayapatnam port, its commercial significance, and its strategic location near the coastline make it an ideal candidate for the airport. The state is also considering 600 acres of land for this purpose, and discussions regarding land acquisition and technical feasibility are ongoing.
