Osaka, Japan, January 24, 2025: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, during his visit to Japan for the second edition of the ‘Advantage Assam’ business summit, announced that Assam is poised to become India’s next economic powerhouse. He highlighted the state’s ambitious $12 billion infrastructure investment plan, which he described as a significant opportunity for global firms. Assam also secured a record $4 billion in private investments in 2024, the highest ever for the state.
Sarma outlined a target to elevate Assam’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) to $143 billion by 2030. He expressed interest in collaborating with leading Japanese firms to set up a semiconductor manufacturing unit in Assam. The state is set to host the ‘Advantage Assam’ investment summit on February 25 and 26, aiming to showcase the region’s rich traditions and attract global investors.
