Amaravati, January 11, 2025: Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced the official celebration of Obanna Jayanti to honor the courageous freedom fighter, Vadde Obanna. Naidu highlighted that although the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 is known as the First War of Independence, Obanna’s heroic resistance against British atrocities in 1846, alongside Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, also holds significant historical importance. Their collective efforts were aimed at defending the self-respect of the Telugu people.
Naidu expressed his determination to ensure that Vadde Obanna’s contributions to the freedom struggle are acknowledged by today’s generations. The celebrations are intended to shine a light on the sacrifices of lesser-known freedom fighters like Obanna, who fought for independence well before the events of 1857. Through these commemorations, Naidu aims to preserve the legacy of Vadde Obanna, an iconic figure who continues to inspire the people of Andhra Pradesh.
