Visakhapatnam, January 10, 2025: The Andhra Pradesh government has formed a ministerial committee to review a proposal for allocating an additional 500 acres of land for the Bhogapuram Greenfield Airport project. The committee, chaired by Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav, includes Infrastructure Minister BC Janardhan Reddy and Industries Minister TG Bharat. The proposal from GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited (GVIAL) aims to use the land for city-side development adjacent to the airport.
The additional land is essential for developing high-tech aviation services and associated industries as part of the ‘Swarna Andhra Vision.’ The committee has been tasked with exploring the social and economic potential of the North Andhra region, focusing on establishing an aviation hub and generating revenue from the land development. The government had already allocated 2,203 acres for the airport, with GVIAL now requesting an extra 500 acres for further expansion.
