Amaravati, January 10, 2025 – The Andhra Pradesh government is working to identify and remove ineligible recipients of the ₹15,000 pension provided to individuals with long-term disabilities. Recent medical tests have shown that a significant number of beneficiaries do not meet the required criteria. Only 20-30% are truly eligible for the ₹15,000, while others are either eligible for a ₹6,000 pension or have no disabilities at all. Some recipients are found to be using fraudulent documents to claim the pension.
The verification process has uncovered these discrepancies in districts like Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, Anantapur, Nellore, and Prakasam. Medical teams are now checking the eligibility of 24,091 recipients across the state. If further irregularities are found, the state stands to save approximately ₹238 crores annually by removing ineligible beneficiaries and redistributing the pensions accordingly.
