Bhubaneswar, Odisha, January 9, 2025 – External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar inaugurated the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD), highlighting the vital role of the Indian diaspora in nation-building. Describing the event as a “family reunion,” he acknowledged the diaspora’s contributions to technology, trade, and investment, while emphasizing government efforts to improve passport services, consular support, and welfare measures. He assured that the Modi government remains committed to addressing the concerns of Indians abroad.
Linking Odisha’s maritime heritage, such as the Bali Yatra, to India’s Act East policy, Jaishankar underscored the state’s importance in national development. He urged the diaspora to preserve India’s traditions and heritage while projecting a modern and inclusive image of the country globally. Concluding, he called for their active participation in building a “Viksit Bharat,” blending tradition and technology amidst evolving global challenges.
